Hello All, This is it. We are closing down the shop at Lake Nitinaht. I loved reporting on the weather on a daily base, and I hope you found it useful. My plan is to be back next year and start reporting as soon as I get to the lake, sometimes middle to end of May 2026. I am looking...

It had been requested that I post up a how-to for rescuing runaway wings. I've successfully done it at least once so I guess it makes me an internet expert on the topic. Please feel free to add any methods or insights to this thread. The following is what seemed to work for me the other day...

Currently, a broad area of high pressure over the NE PAC exists along with a surface thermal trough extending northward along the West Coast. This has lead to light offshore flow recently however, a flow reversal is in store. Onshore flow looks to return on Tuesday as a frontal system draws near. With it, small craft winds are possible for the coastal waters Tuesday evening into Wednesday. The latest NBM and HREF probabilities suggest a 50-100% chance of sustained winds exceeding 21 kt. The highest probabilities are for the outer coastal waters. Wave heights with this system will increase to 8-11 ft around this time with the largest waves over the outer coastal waters. Seas will subside Wednesday afternoon to 5-7 ft and will continue decreasing into Friday to 3-5 ft. Additional systems may move over the waters late in the week. However, the latest guidance suggests marine impacts will be minimal at this time. McMillian (Issued: 251 PM PDT Mon Oct 6 2025 by NOAA)

Old Surf Sprinters just won't die... Great for coastal bear sightseeing. The Laser S.S. is circa 1978 or 1982 as I recall, a 1978 or  LA Olympic evaluation sailboard .

Lots of snow on the right side, must have been Jan/Feb.  On a cell phone, then you zoom in, is this snow (dirty some spot) or a creek? WTF it look like Nitinat, and few kites in pic cant be Jan/Feb. Then you realise what it is. :(  :(  :( .

JW and I had a fun SE session this winter launching at San Pareil next door to Rath. We were joined by a couple Biggs whales which made it rather memorable! Big swells just offshore. Great spot!

Lots of people kite Rathtrevor these days in the winter, it needs to be a bit windier as it is a bit more sheltered than San P. I’ll be hanging out with Kite gear around the San P launch today and tomorrow. Really good at low tide and less busy. San P is walking distance from Rathtrevor

Quick wipe of the RB cam lens please!  And my Dallas cam isn't working, is that temporary? RB was fickle yesterday, looked so good on cam then arrived to swimmers.  Gave it 45 minutes to fill in, it really looked like it would, and left for an efoil (made good progress) assuming my leaving sacrifice would bring wind into the bay, it looked great upwind of Clover.  Early onset August bubble?  I see from the logs it gave a good sunset session.

Thanks!  Or is it condensation that disappears as it gets warmer?  Thanks for the cam and placement anyway!

Lighthouse keeper might have a full setup with that black Core kite drifting down there too.
