Best Columbia Beach Tide on NW?

Unread post by CraigH »

Hi all, I was wondering what tide conditions were best for Columbia Beach? Looks like NW all day today and Tuesday with low tide mid day.

Would the morning shift with falling tide be better or the afternoon/evening with the rising tide? What's a good minimum tide to get out for foiling?

Thanks!

You would be correct, I tried the 4m at 9 am, not even close, switched to 5.3m and I made it work for 15 min and then drifted back in. Too bad as the swell was pretty nice. I'll have another look tonight, EC says 25-35 this evening.

For CB, tide doesn't matter so much for foiling. You either have a shorter or longer walk to the ocean depending on what the tide is doing  . Water gets deep enough for the foil regardless; just watch for the short sand bar that's in front of the launch. Otherwise you're good to go any tide.

Thanks! I had thought I had the luxury of choice but NW Columbia doesn't seem very solid. It was light on Monday evening as well, so I tried Pipers Tuesday afternoon instead. Easier launch, good wind, and lots of friendly sailors, nice to meet Mark, Juan, and more. It was a bit light on the 4m from 3pm and a bit stronger after 6, not much swell but fun to check out Hudson Rocks, chase the boat wakes and ride the 1-3 ft swell.

I'll wait for a SE to try Columbia again. Thanks again for the feedback.
